SuperHEROes

Healthy HERO's Program

Depression, coupled with drug use and erratic sexual behaviors of adolescents and teens, supports the need for Healthy HERO's. Healthy HERO's will provide a holistic approach to meeting the physical, mental/emotional and sexual health needs of our children. The evidence based curriculum is designed to 1.) provide children infected and affected by HIV/AIDS with physical, mental/emotional, and sexual health education, and 2.) address a range of health and family planning questions that have been posed by our children. The program will serve both infected and affected youth; consist of approximately 10-12, two-hour sessions, and serve four age groups (6-9, 10-12, 13-16, and 17-20).

Care will be taken to ensure that sessions are culturally and linguistically sensitive or appropriate, and written to reach children at their academic and developmental levels. Class sizes are limited to 15 youth, if possible, to ensure a low teacher to student ratio. Sexual matters will be discussed with children ages -10 and up, by parental permission only. The program cycle will begin in the first quarter of 2010.
