Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have decided not to convene the various groups of volunteers required to execute our normal Holiday of HEROs program. We believe this is best course of action to take to ensure the collective health and safety of our staff and volunteers. As a result, we will facilitate Holiday of HEROs in an abbreviated form this year. We will not request wish lists, and gifts will not be wrapped. Therefore, we are asking our local parents and community partners to complete our HOH 2020 Child Information Form - providing the names, genders, and ages of children only, which will be used to match presents with kids.
The H.O.H. program allows us to partner with other AIDS organizations and hospitals in Georgia to provide children affected by HIV and AIDS with one item they need and one gift they want during the holiday season. Our partner organizations include Jerusalem House, AID Atlanta, and Living Forward, as well as pediatric AIDS clinics in Atlanta, Athens, Macon, Augusta, Albany, and Savannah. An HIV/AIDS diagnosis for those living in low-income families, which is our highest service population, usually comes with great financial difficulty due to healthcare costs and the inability of an infected adult to work consistently.
Last year, the community helped H.E.R.O. for Children provide gifts for over 250 children! This success was due to the commitment of businesses, churches, community partners and individuals who sponsored children’s "wish lists," supplied gifts and gift cards, and provided monetary donations. This year, we are inviting businesses, community partners, churches and individuals to get involved, once more, with this exciting program. This is how you can help:
- Sponsor a child’s “wish list” (Option not available during pandemic)
H.O.H. is driven by the generosity of individuals, families, church organizations and local businesses who "adopt" children. Matching children with donors and delivering the gifts to the kids before the holidays requires tremendous coordination. Donors will receive only age and gender appropriate "wish lists". Donor and recipient personal information is strictly confidential. Wish lists are typically distributed to donors in early to mid-November. If you are interested in this opportunity, please download, complete and submit the HOH Donor Registration form located on the right.
- Donate toys and/or gift cards for children of all ages
Individuals, organizations, and groups are invited to donate books, gift cards, toiletries, blankets, dolls, toys, electronics, etc. directly to client needs.
- Make a monetary donation which will be used to purchase gifts
You may mail a check to H.E.R.O. for Children, Inc., 580 W. Crossville Road, Suite 204, Roswell GA 30075 (please indicate "Holiday of HEROs" on your check). If you prefer to make an online contribution, please visit www.heroforchildren.org/donate.
- Donate services (i.e. catering (full, hot meal, desserts, and beverages), decorating, photography, and DJ) (Option not available during pandemic)
Individuals, companies or groups are invited to donate their services during our annual holiday party (i.e. catering (full, hot meal, desserts, and beverages), decorating the venue, photographing the event, DJ services, costume character services and more)
- Volunteer Your Time (Option not available during pandemic)
Groups/Individuals have the opportunity to volunteer in the following areas:
- Wrapping gifts for children
- Holiday party event setup
- Manning food and activity stations
- Handing out gifts during the holiday party
- Cleanup and breakdown after the holiday party
- Help “spread the news” that we need holiday gifts for children infected with and/or affected by HIV/AIDS.
If you would like to be a Holiday sponsor, please complete and submit the Holiday of HEROs Donor Registration Form so that we know how you would like to help this year.
