Holiday of HEROs

The Holiday of HEROs (H.O.H.) program allows us to partner with other AIDS organizations and hospitals in Georgia to provide children affected by HIV and AIDS with one item they need and one gift they want during the holiday season. Our partner organizations include Status: Home, Inc., AID Atlanta, and Live Forward, as well as pediatric AIDS clinics in Atlanta, Athens, Macon, Augusta, Albany, Rome, and Savannah. An HIV/AIDS diagnosis for those living in low-income families, which is our highest service population, usually comes with great financial difficulty due to healthcare costs and the inability of an infected adult to work consistently.

In 2024, the community helped H.E.R.O. for Children serve three hundred and ninety-one (391) children! This success was due to the commitment of businesses, churches, community partners, and individuals who sponsored children, provided gifts and gift cards, and made monetary donations. This year, we are inviting businesses, community partners, churches, and individuals to get involved once more with this exciting program. We anticipate serving a record number of 431 children!

How you can help:

  • Sponsor a Child This Holiday Season

The Holiday of HEROs Program is driven by the incredible generosity of individuals, families, faith-based organizations, and local businesses who “adopt” children and fulfill their holiday wish lists.

Each year, H.E.R.O. for Children carefully matches sponsors with children and coordinates the collection and delivery of gifts before the holidays — a process that requires heartfelt dedication and teamwork.

When you register as a sponsor, you’ll receive your assigned child’s ID number, age, and gender. Please note that all sponsor and recipient information is kept strictly confidential to protect the privacy of our HERO families.

Child information packets are typically distributed to sponsors in early to mid-November, giving you plenty of time to shop for gifts and make a child’s holiday brighter.

  • Purchasing and donating toys, clothing, and/or gift cards for children of all ages

Individuals, families, community groups, and organizations are invited to donate books, gift cards, toiletries, board games, dolls, toys, electronics, and more — all of which will be distributed directly to H.E.R.O. for Children’s clients during the holiday season.

We’ve also created an Amazon Wish List filled with popular presents for our HERO kids. This convenient option allows you to select gifts online and have them shipped directly to the H.E.R.O. for Children office — making it easy to give back, no matter where you are.

  • Make a monetary donation which will be used to purchase gifts

Become a HERO for the holiday! For just $50.00, one child will receive at least 2 gift items for the holiday season.

  • Donate services (i.e. catering (full, hot meal, desserts, and beverages), decorating, photography, and DJ)

Individuals, companies or groups are invited to donate their services during our annual holiday party (i.e. catering (full, hot meal, desserts, and beverages), decorating the venue, photographing the event, DJ services, costume character services and more)

  • Volunteer Your Time

Groups/Individuals have the opportunity to volunteer in the following areas: 

  • Wrapping gifts for children
  • Holiday party event setup 
  • Manning food and activity stations
  • Handing out gifts during the holiday party
  • Cleanup and breakdown after the holiday party
  • Help “spread the news” that we need holiday gifts for children infected with and/or affected by HIV/AIDS.

 Current Needs:

We’re currently collecting new, unwrapped gifts and gift cards for children and teens ages 0–19. Our most needed items this season include:

  • Footballs

  • Wallets

  • Toddler educational toys and infant toys

  • Bath & body gift sets (for both males and females)

  • Watches, jewelry, and accessories for teens

  • Coats in all sizes

  • Clothing – Boys & Girls (sizes 7–16 or medium/large)

  • Clothing - Mens & Womens (sizes large/x-large)

  • Toddler clothing (sizes 2T–5T)

  • Arts & craft kits for all ages

  • Legos and STEM games

  • Makeup for teens

  • African-American baby dolls and Barbies
